By Andrew Phillips | October 7, 2015

For this week’s Wellness Wednesdays, we’d like to introduce you all to Ember; an 8-year-old German shepherd who saves lives.

Ember is a blood donor. Yes that’s right, she is a doggy blood donor! Ember takes part in the blood donor program at The Animal Emergency Clinic of the Fraser Valley, where in November of this year she will have donated blood 20 times before retiring! She is an amazing dog who loves sports – she likes to do agility, obedience and drafting and does many demonstrations and competitions with her owner. The staff at AECFV will be sad to see Ember retire but are so proud to have worked with such an incredible girl!

It is an amazing thing that Ember, and all other blood donors do (animal and human). They save lives on a regular and that is more than a lot of us can say! If you’re interested in your cat or dog being part of the blood donor program at AECFV and you are local to the Fraser Valley area, send an email to donateblood@animalemerg.com

If you don’t live here in beautiful BC, don’t worry! A lot of cities have their own blood donor programs, especially if they have emergency or specialty animal hospitals, so call your local vets for more information.
