Roxie

This is beautiful Roxie, a 45 lb Rottie/Lab. Roxie’s previous owner bred her and now at six years old, Roxie has had a number of litters, even after she was hit by a car four years ago.  The accident resulted in serious nerve damage to her front left leg so she carried puppies on only three legs. Roxie got loose 3 months ago and was found wandering.  She was picked up and through the great work of Cross Our Paws Rescue North Vancouver and West Coast Rottweiler Rescue the owner was encouraged to sign her over.  Roxie was underweight, needed to be spayed and have a dental, and the leg had to be addressed. Amputation of the left leg was considered and Kendall at K9H2O was asked to foster her and help her through the surgeries and dental. Upon meeting Roxie, Kendall soon realized she had a remarkable amount of feeling and use in the left leg.  Veterinary exam confirmed she had a good range of motion and used the leg as a cane for balance. She can shake a paw, wipe her face and tap a door to go out with the left leg. She is not in pain, does not drag the leg and there are no wear wounds on the paw.  She rarely trips over the leg, so the decision was made to not do the amputation. Under vet advisement, Roxie has been swimming with Kendall up to 5 times a week, which she loves!

Roxie is now up for adoption! She is extremely sweet, willing to learn and do her best, fantastic with other dogs and children though not so good with small animals like cats or Guinea Pigs.  She is kind, biddable, housebroken, tattooed and chipped. She runs and jumps.  She moves very much like a complete dog.  The left leg is really not a health issue and will not become worse over time. It is what it is and functions to her benefit.  She loves car rides and the veterinary clinic, and her happy nature never waivers. She is quite quiet in the house and her recall even in the off leash dog park, is very good.  Her favorite place to be is in your lap.
