Motivational Monday – Diesel’s Story

By Andrew Phillips | November 21, 2022

Today we get to honour Diesel and his memory by sharing a bit of his story.

Diesel’s Story from the Words of His Family:

This is our amazing boy, Diesel. He was the strongest, happiest, most hilarious and determined pup we ever had the pleasure of loving. He was larger than life, and inspired us daily. We offered to foster Diesel in 2017, saving him from euthanasia after he became paralyzed. Ultimately we fell madly in love and became quick “foster failures”, deciding to make him ours forever. When we saw our first photo of him, we just knew he was special and deserved a chance at an amazing life and we were determined to give that to him.

Despite the new challenges he was facing, nothing EVER kept him down. Diesel was such a good boy with his diaper changes, and putting his boots and pjs on so he wouldn’t scuff his feet. Very often he would give us biggg kisses as if to say “thank you for taking care of me!”. He was immediately soo comfortable in his Walkin’ Pets wheelchair! He knew when it came out that it meant “walkie time!” and he would jump and scoot around the house so excited to get into it. His chair was a total game changer when it came to his quality of life. He was able to go for daily walks and hikes with the rest of his siblings, and he was SO quick that he was hard to keep up with at times! Seeing him rip around in his chair melted our hearts, as well as touching people around the world through his Instagram page @diesel_the2wheeleddawg. On his page we shared his daily shenanigans, “wang flanging” his legs in the air became one of his trademarks, running wild and free in the trails in his wheels, sun bathing with his brothers and sisters, getting weekly massages (sometimes in his favourite big truck) to help keep his front end strong and comfortable, destroying toys, and loving anything and everything that was food (especially car rides for timbits!). He truly lived each day to the fullest and loveddd going for adventures.

Sadly, in winter of 2021, Diesel was diagnosed with an aggressive mast cell tumour. He went through surgery to remove the first one in hopes that it would all be okay, but despite our best efforts it came back very quickly right afterwards. He was given roughly 2-6 months, and in typical Diesel fashion he fought as hard as he could, making it just past the 6 month mark to prove everyone wrong like he always did. We packed in all of the adventures, snacks, snuggles, squirrel chasing, massages, and memories we could to keep his spirits high, and he stayed our happy go lucky boy the entire way.

It isn’t fair that cancer took our boy, but even writing this through tears, I know that his life was much much more than what ultimately stole him from us. Diesel was an inspiration to SO many people around the world. He taught us that no matter what life throws at you, you have to keep your head up and just keep going. He made us laugh and smile every single day, and pulled us through the hard times with his antics and positive spirit. Diesel lived an amazing life despite his obstacles and I’d give absolutely anything to have him back, but I know his memory lives on and he will never, ever be forgotten.

We love you SO much baby D, forever and always xoxoxo

Such a beautiful tribute to our chomper Diesel.
Diesel was an incredible inspiration to all that knew and loved him personally and from afar. His determination to live life to its fullest gave so much love and joy to everyone. His rough beginning didn’t sour him to the possibility of loving and living again. Every day was a blessing he gave us and we all gave back. We as humans can all learn from his story, never give up, continue to live and love to the fullest and fight all obstacles we have the power to fight. Diesel fought to the end, never stopped loving and showing us the power of that love. He is dearly missed but his memory lives on in all of us who were blessed to have loved him. Grams chomper you will always be my incredible D superman ❤️ forever in my heart and soul

Diesel broke the mould and cleared the way for specially abled pets around the world. He touched so many hearts. The strongest, happiest boy I ever met. Thanks to his family he lived life to the fullest ever day. He got whatever he needed for his health and care. We always loved seeing posts about him ripping up the trails in his Walkn Pets gear. I’ll never forget him. XO

I loved getting on IG just to see what Diesel was up to. When my Little Boy got injured and could not walk anymore, I turned to Diesel for an example; an example of just how much living he could do even in a wheelchair. When I learned Diesel was going to cross the rainbow bridge, I cried for days. Diesel and his family are like family to me and my 9 dogs.

Thank you mommy Diesel for sharing your boy with the world. My world is better having you in my life.

Thank you for sharing his story with the world.

I never got to meet the big guy but I felt like I knew him from your loving posts. As a mom of a “specially abled” dog (yes you taught me that word) I know how much they steal your heart. As much as it hurts that Diesal is no longer physically with you, take pride in knowing what an incredible, happy, loving life you gave him. He was loved and he knew it!!
