The Balto Flexor is a hock brace that is part of our Veterinary Professional line. It is a post-operative and rehabilitative tarsal brace with graduated joint for ligament injuries and joint pathologies. The Balto Flexor brace was created with the aim of stabilizing the tarsal joint of the dog that presents traumatic or congenital joint instability. The adjustable hinges provide full range of motion control, allowing for partial or full immobilization of the joint, according to your dog’s needs. Flexor is width-adjustable and length-adjustable, thanks to the upper and lower padding which can be lengthened or shortened on the leg, ensuring an excellent fit.

Tips from the Manufacturer for Proper Use

  • In the post-operative period, respect the instructions of the veterinarian on the timing of application. In case of post-operative edema, remove the brace until swelling is reabsorbed.
  • Do not remove the stickers relating to the degrees of the joint and the direction of the brace.
  • Keep the brace clean, eliminating any hair , especially in the internal parts of the velcro: use a specific brush for hair every 2/3 days.
  • Do not wash the brace in the washing machine : for proper cleaning, remove the padding and wash them by hand, in cold water, with neutral products.
  • Do not use screwdrivers or other electric tools to adjust the screws.
  • Do not force the screws into the assembly to avoid damaging the threads. In addition to the 2 keys, there are some spare screws in the package.
  • Do not leave the brace worn by the dog for the whole day : the brace must be worn during the day, especially in moments of physical activity, and must be removed at night.
  • Do not leave the dog alone, with the brace on, for too long : it could in fact try to remove it, biting or scratching it.
  • In case of irritation or rubbing sores, do not apply the brace directly ; put some cotton on the area wrapped with gauze and use the brace on the bandage.

Brace as Alternative to Surgery

The Flexor brace can be used as a conservative treatment usage as an alternative support to surgery if the dog is not able to undergo surgery.

The brace acts as a rehabilitation support due to the possibility of reducing the movement of the joint, while maintaining an adequate range of motion. The Flexor brace is indicated for the conservative treatment in cases of ligament injuries, laxity and neurological pathologies such as hyperflexion or hyperextension and joint instability in general of the tarsal joint.

Be sure to consult with your veterinarian to see if this is a good option for you and your dog.

Similar Brace, Medium Support

Are you looking at the Balto Flexor but are not needing a brace with high support? We have the perfect option for you: the Balto Hock! The BT Hock is a medium support brace that can be used in conditions that cause lesions in the region of the hock joint, with symptoms such as pain, lameness or difficulty in moving.
